celebrating 4th of july

The 4th of July is upon us and for many this means shooting fireworks with family and friends while the burgers are finishing up on the grill. For others it’s a reminder of the sacrifice that thousands of men and women have made to preserve our freedom as a nation. And still for others it means hitting the mall to find great sales. However you choose to celebrate this 4th of July, let me give you a few tips on how social media can help you get the most out of your Independence Day.

Ohhh… Ahhh… Hashtags…

In true American fashion, sales are everywhere this holiday week.  Use Twitter to see what brands have on sale right now.  If shopping isn’t in the cards for you, use Twitter to expand your big party outside of the backyard. With hashtags like #4thofJuly, #USA, #IndependenceDay, #Fireworks and #July4th (if space becomes an issue), you can celebrate with people across the country in real-time updates, check out pictures people are snapping, firework show times/locations in your area, and delicious recipes people are sharing to spice up their barbecues, or share your own.

Facebook Event

Did anyone send out snail mail 4th of July party invitations? Probably not.  You may have gone by word-of-mouth, but nowadays putting up a Facebook event is what will get your friends over to enjoy the festivities. Post a reminder to your Facebook event so that in case someone’s plans fell through, you are now at the front of their mind, and schedule.

But what if you still don’t have plans?  You can search “4th of July + (your city)” on Facebook to see what events are going on in your area.  It should be pretty obvious that 4th of July picture sharing on Facebook is a must, everyone will want to see what great ideas you and your friends came up with to celebrate. If parties aren’t your thing, restaurants like Phil’s Grill will be running specials on the 4th of July, so you might be able to get some cool deals just by checking out their Facebook or Blog.

Just because it’s a holiday, doesn’t mean you have to stop being social online. Get parties going, go shopping and enjoy your Independence Day with the help of social media.
